NAME CHANGE
There are many reasons why you might be interested in
changing your name. Access Legal will help you to obtain
a Name Change Decree through the Los Angeles Superior Court. To save your time and money, we have outlined the procedure
here for you.
YOU DO NOT HAVE TO APPLY FOR NAME CHANGE IF:
You got married
Unless you chose last name that is different from
your husband’s (wife’s), you do not have
to do name change through court. Just take your marriage
certificate to DMV and Social Security Office and they will
change your last name to your husband’s (wife’s)
last name. You may also hyphenate it if you would like.
You
got divorced
Name change issues are usually covered in Dissolution Judgment. If the Judge has not made ruling as to the name change, you will have to file for it. Please refer to Name Change procedures on this website.
You are under immigration proceedings
If you filed for any type of immigration status adjustment, it is not recommended to do change your name until immigration procedure is complete. Besides, you will have an opportunity to request name change with immigration officer during your interview. |
